return to life
Pilates is for the 'average Joe', yes, it is!
Joe devised it. Joseph Pilates that is.
The 'method' has been around since the early 1900s. It's effectiveness has been proved time and again since then and it's one of the best ways to keep you away from the doctor's couch. You could think of it as body conditioning or maintenance.
It's also proven in the field of rehabilitation too.
The 'method' draws heavily on observation of natural movement in animals and has always been intended to get us back in touch with the tools nature has given us to succeed in life.
WHAT IS PILATES?
The million dollar question. Pilates is a unique mind:body 'method' of conscious body movement. It's intention is to make you move in the best possible way considering your body and mind's uniqueness and understanding the space in which you live.
It's not spiritual by nature but the connections between mind and body are developed so that we have the awareness of how we can make the most of 'us'.
It is billed as 'low impact' which means that it can be appropriate for those who need a less robust form of exercise but that doesn't mean you don't work hard. Pilates can be as tough or as gentle as you wish to make it. It's a really hard thing to define and the very best way of experiencing it is to do just that - come and give it a go!
